Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

10:24pm And that is the end to yet another chaotic, intense night at the IPL. This tournament is slowly picking pace. Tomorrow it is Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Supers Kings. We’ll see you there – good night!

Y Chahal: When I bowled my first over, there was a little grip. I decided to bowl a stump to stump line and my captain told me to go for attacking deliveries. One point of time they were batting well, so I can’t bowl every ball fast. So I bowled wider and turning, which is difficult to hit. For Bairstow I went straighter and a little leg side because it’s difficult to hit from there. For Shankar, Kohli came up to me and we decided to go for the googly first up.

Yuzvendra Chahal is the Man of the Match.

Virat Kohli: It’s amazing to be honest. Last night we were only the other side of the result, 6-nil. Nice to be 1-nil. We kept our composure and Yuzi comes in and completely changes the game for us. Not many spinners got much out of the pitch, but tonight he showed that you can turn it if you have it in your wrists. He turned the game. To be honest, we started really well. Devdutt was really good on debut, Finchy as well. But whenyou lose two in two, you have to consolidate. If not for two in two, you were looking at maybe 10-20 runs more. In the past if we had 43 off 5, you’d see the shoulders dropping but the guys kept believing, kept attacking. Someone like Washy not bowling enough and a part-timer doing it are good signs.

AB de Villiers: Big surprise for me! [His innings]. It’s a nice change to get on the right side of a close game early on in the season. We worked very hard for the win. It’s a great start for us and hopefully a good sign of things to come. I surprised myself to be honest. We had a competitive game in South africa, which was great, gave me a little bit of confidence. As a 36-year-old to come here, having not played a lot of cricket, in the middle of some talented youngsters – was a pleasing start. Very happy with the basics, seems to be in place. [Padikkal] It’s a tough thing to arrive at the IPL, they don’t come more tough than that. The talent is just incredible. Every year there are 19 and 20 year olds coming through looking like they’ve played international cricket for a long time.

David Warner: Yeah look, can’t remember I was out like that. It was a bizarre game for us. Obviously RCB played well here to get across the line. A lot of courage for Mitch to walk out. Doesn’t look great, he can’t put any weight on his leg. We always knew that they had to get some bowlers out at the end. Probably that last over of Chahal was the turning point there. We’ve obviously go back to the drawing board. We can’t fix what happened tonight. Everyone knows that [to play Chahal out at that point], it is a talking point, but the guys don’t need reminding.

Gaurav: “RCB needs to have a look at bowlers who are going to bowl death overs for them. Come Russells n Pollards n it’s gonna be an entirely different ball game. Dale Steyn hardly looks a safe bet.”

Srinath: “Apart from Warner, Bairstow and Pandey can any of the other players bat or can be relied upon to guide the team home? Doesnt look too good for SRH going forward….”

Nctbadri: “Happy for RCB, given they can easily strengthen team from here ..umesh has to be out and sundar can’t play if he is going to bowl 1 over ! That’s 2 slots plus if finch replaced by Kohli at top, they can add 1 more in the middle …”

Abhishek: “Don’t count out contribution of Navdeep Saini. Broke the middle order into two parts in just one over.”

Gaurav: “Not coming hard on Vjay Shankar. But he needs to take a good hars look at his career so far. I can only remember his failures. The one against Bangladesh in Nidhas Cup. Replacing Rayudu in WC19 n coming dud. Sparking a collapse tonight. Just an honest observation.”

abhishek singh: “ahh nothing special, its 2020…. RCB winning while defending……”

9:59pm A quite extraordinary collapse. Sunrisers were 121 for 2 with five balls of Yuzvendra Chahal to play out. Bairstow looked to slog one, Shankar was completely bamboozled and within a couple of minutes, their most experienced remaining batsmen were gone. The collapse eventually read 8 for 32 in 26 balls. Quite something. RCB left it quite thin with their bowling, Chahal pretty much being their big throw of the dice, but it worked out, and from there they completely grabbed the opportunity after being knocked around easily for the most part. Shivam Dube in particular would have excited his skipper at the end, with Saini doing what was expected off him. A good start to them with their recalibrated team. Despite the hiccups, they’ve managed to pull one off early in the season.

19.4 W Steyn to Sandeep Sharma taken at long-on! That’s the win for RCB. Sandeep with a sweet connection, but Kohli tracks backwards and leaps to grab on to that. Short ball, good pull, but Sunrisers will lose by 10 runs OUT
Sandeep Sharma c Kohli b Steyn 9 (6b 1×4 0x6) SR: 150.00

Abhishek: “MoM for me is Chahal. Turned the tide with those two wickets. Not to take anything away from AB or Saini.”

19.3 4 Steyn to Sandeep Sharma good length and just outside off, backs away and has a slog. Gets a thick outside edge to third man’s left FOUR
19.2 2 Steyn to Sandeep Sharma low full toss at middle stump, laboured thwack to long-on’s right 2 runs
19.1 1 Steyn to Natarajan short of a length outside off, opens the face and jabs it to point off the under-edge 1 run

Mahesh Shewale: “The wicket of Bairstow today and Mayank Agrawal yesterday highlight the importance of set batsman playing with responsibility till end on these wickets. ” — Dale Steyn to defend 18 against T Natarajan.

End of Over No.19 Sunrisers Hyderabad 146/9 Last Over (4 runs)

Mohantys: “And assuming to upset from here, my MoM has to be Saini with due respect to ABD’s breathtaking innings. The guy has been sensational and got quality batters hopping around with sheer pace!”
Sundar S: “Why would Marsh even bother coming out? It’s not exactly end of the world at stake here. The max he can achieve is aggravating his injury.”

18.6 1 Dube to Natarajan slower ball at a length on middle stump, lofts it on the up to long-on’s right 1 run
18.5 1 Dube to Sandeep Sharma slower ball at a good length on middle, slugged off the toe-end to long-on’s left 1 run
18.4 1 Dube to Natarajan low full toss on off stump, leans in and pats it to extra cover. Direct hit and he would’ve been out at the non-striker’s 1 run
18.3 0 Dube to Natarajan full and across off stump, feebly poke at it and is beaten no run
18.2 W Dube to Marsh holes out to long-on. Smart bowling from Dube. Making him fetch that from outside off, because foot movement is out of the question. Slower ball, looping outside off. Comes off the toe-end and that’s that for Marsh. Can barely stay on his feet and off he goes with the physio for support OUT
MR Marsh c Kohli b Dube 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Range hitting duties only for Marsh tonight. Brave of him to be out there.

18.1 1 Dube to Sandeep Sharma short of a length at off stump, mistimed pull out to long-on. Marsh hobbles through to the other end. There’s a misfield at long-on, but he can barely jog at the moment 1 run

Marsh hobbles out to the middle.

End of Over No.18 Sunrisers Hyderabad 142/8 Last Over (7 runs)
17.6 W Saini to Rashid Khan tonks off stump! Full and honing in at off stump. Nothing adventurous about this shot either, just an attempted drive. But Saini is rapid. Just too good. He has done his job to perfection OUT
Rashid Khan b Saini 6 (5b 1×4 0x6) SR: 120.00
17.5 1 Saini to Sandeep Sharma yorker at middle stump, watchfully pushed down to long-on 1 run

Sandeep Sharma comes out. Presumably because Mitch Marsh cannot run and is likely being saved to stand at one end and look for boundaries if needed.

17.4 W Saini to Kumar knocks the middle stump out! Full, straight, too fast for Bhuvi. Top class. Looking to drive that to long-on with a straight bat, not a lot wrong with the attempt. It’s just too fast for him OUT
B Kumar b Saini 0 (2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Three balls of Saini to go. Mitchell Marsh is padded up.

17.3 0 Saini to Kumar short of a length just outside off, jabbed to point off the back foot no run

Sarah : “Understand why he bowled the short ball… but the man just got hit on the head… isn’t that a little harsh and not exactly within the spirit of the game?? ” — There’s an argument for spirt of cricket practitioners about whether collision run outs are within the spirit too

17.2 1 Saini to Rashid Khan short outside off, whippy cut, straight to third man 1 run
17.2 5 Saini to Rashid Khan another bouncer but this goes all wrong for Saini. Chases him down leg side with another bouncer. It’s above the head, it’s way down leg side, it’s past Philippe’s left hand 5 wides
17.1 0 Saini to Rashid Khan bouncer first up. Heading for his helmet. Rashid is quick to duck under that no run
End of Over No.17 Sunrisers Hyderabad 135/6 Last Over (8 runs)

Rashid is dazed and holding the back of his head. He looks concussed. On his feet for now…and he’s put the helmet back on. He will continue. Saini to bowl at him.

16.6 1 Dube to Abhishek Sharma collision and run out! Rashid Khan is on the floor. It was a cutter, flicked into the leg side. To deep midwicket. They wanted two, they were both ball watching. Sharma had run to the side that would be around the wicket for the right handed bowler to him. Rashid was on the same path at the other end. They were, essentially, headed for each other and in the moment, with the ball-watching, had no idea where the other person was. Sharma was on his feet, and he ran through, so he’s the one dismissed. 1 run, OUT
Abhishek Sharma run out 7 (4b 1×4 0x6) SR: 175.00
16.5 1 Dube to Rashid Khan length on off stump, waits on that and jabs into the covers off the front foot 1 run
16.4 4 Dube to Rashid Khan four first up. Easy does it for the main man now for SRH. Slower ball, short and wide outside off. Waits on it, old fashioned square cut between backward point and third man FOUR

Rashid Khan the new man. Still no word on Marsh.

16.3 W Dube to Garg bat, onto helmet, onto stumps! Length ball outside off, walks into the off side and looks for the ramp. It’s off the leading edge, onto his grille, and then it lobs onto off stump. This chase is coming completely apart now OUT
PK Garg b Dube 12 (13b 1×4 0x6) SR: 92.30
16.2 1 Dube to Abhishek Sharma offcutter, short of a length at middle stump. Looks to whip into the leg side, deflected towards short fine off the thigh 1 run

Abhishek Sharma had scored 46* off 19 on his T20 debut, against RCB for Delhi Daredevils in 2018

16.1 1 Dube to Garg length at off stump, tapped down to long-on off the back foot 1 run

Shivam Dube now, back for his second.

End of Over No.16 Sunrisers Hyderabad 127/4 Last Over (6 runs)
15.6 4 Chahal to Abhishek Sharma oh hello! Hello Abhishek Sharma. Jumps down, meets this full ball at the pitch and drills it straight over the bowler. Confident stuff that, superbly executed FOUR
15.5 1 Chahal to Garg full on leg stump, tucked to deep midwicket off the front foot 1 run
15.4 1 Chahal to Abhishek Sharma tossed up at off stump, driven along the floor to long-off 1 run

Hat-trick ball now. Abhishek Sharma is the new man. There is a slip for the left-handed.

15.3 W Chahal to Shankar bowled him with an absolute beauty! Wow! Sensational! Googly lobbed right up, just outside off. Shankar looked completely out of sorts, playing for the turn and looking to drive on the off side. Huge, huge gap between bat and pad and middle stump takes a tonk. What a delivery. And what a player he is for RCB, keeping them in it again and again and again OUT
V Shankar b Chahal 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Sooryanarayanan: “Really poor shot selection from Jonny there. With 2 overs remaining in the 5th bowler’s quota and the rate well under control, he just had to play out Chahal. Rashid Khan in next?” — Vijay Shankar is the new man. There is a slip in place.

Caruso: “Shane Warne would have been proud of that dismissal!”
curatAR: “Don’t blame Bairstow for thinking it was his day after those missed chances!”

15.2 W Chahal to Bairstow bowled him! Oh boy oh boy oh boy, what was Bairstow thinking there? Look for your Fazeer Mohammed clips because this is fully deserving of an animated “why did he dooo thaaat?” Full floaty ball at leg stump, gets the front leg into the leg side and unleashes the most ungainly heave and misses entirely. Leg stump takes a knock and RCB will suddenly feel energised with the inexperience coming for SRH. Top knock from YJB until that ball OUT
JM Bairstow b Chahal 61 (43b 6×4 2×6) SR: 141.86
15.1 0 Chahal to Bairstow length on off stump, blocked on the front foot no run

Chahal now for his last, will they see him off?

End of Over No.15 Sunrisers Hyderabad 121/2 Last Over (13 runs)

gaurav : “Why is Sundar so under-bowled? Just because two right handers were batting. So, was he playing just to bowl at Warner?”

14.6 0 Steyn to Garg past the outside edge. Length ball wide outside off, opens the face and has a swish no run
