Ball by Ball Live Score Commentary

6:07pm And that is it from the first game. Head over to the other game where DC have already lost a wicket against Mumbai.

Rahul Tewatia: This was the role given to me and it was clear from a long time. I was batting well for a while and I was confident and was hitting them well when we played practice games. So it’s easy when you know your role. The wickets were falling so I just wanted to hold one end up and wait for the boundary balls. I knew if I keep my self-belief and take it deep, I could pull it off. I told Riyan that the wicket was playing slow and the deeper we take it, the better our chances, even if we needed 50 off the last 4 because we have the shots. Riyan asked me what to do – I told him to respect the good balls and take singles, and I could take on the attack. Against Rashid I saw the opportunity to play the reverse sweep and took it. [The Khaleel incident] No big deal, we just got taken away in the heat of the moment.

Rahul Tewatia is the Man of the Match.

Smith: I thought Rahul and Riyan as a young kid showed great composure. Stokesy obviously didn’t come off tonight. Or top four didn’t fire, but today showed our depth. With Stokesy back it brings a nice balance to us. He’s been impressive, hasn’t he? Just thrives in pressure situations. You bring in his bowling and fielding to it and he’s a terrific player for us. I don’t think it was the easiest wicket and the square boundaries are quite big too. So great composure from Parag. Proud that he could come back in and score some runs straight up.

David Warner: Couldn’t get across the line there but it happens in cricket. [Holding Rashid back] We’ve done it in the past, we’ve held him back and tr and nullify some runs, but these two played exceptionally well. Tonight we probably – we didn’t mis-execute, but some of the decisions at the top of the mark weren’t there. And we probably bowled the wrong ball at the time. Lots of positives coming out and we’ll take it on to the next game. We need to work out as these wickets get tired, how to bat through the first 6 and the middle, and then assess with our bowling. [Middle-overs batting] Yeah I’ve got some power there! But I’m obviously cooked in the middle. Look obviously Samad’s one of those guys. We thought bringing in Vijay today, playing in the middle and with long boundaries we thought that Vijay would probably give a bit more with the ball.

Riyan Parag: When Rahul bhaiyya came to bat, the motto was to take it deep. Even Rashid had one so we calculated how to take on Rashid and it worked well. I think when I went into bat after a few balls, I had a clear mind tatI wanted to go after 16 overs. I think we just wanted to target the fast bowlers because the wicket was two-paced. I’m a big dreamer, I dream of situations like this. Now it feels a lot more real to me. I love these situations, I’m there to put my hand up. That was the Bihu dance at the end, traditional dance of Assam. Some of the Assamese boys were up there in the balcony.

Bill Lee: “Varun, when you said “breaks into dance!” … what exactly does that mean?” — It means he danced!

Johnson : “For everyone who is thinking what was Riyan Parag dancing, that is Bihu from Assam. “

Al Pachino: “Tewatia does it again! Rashid Khan goes downthis time. Great hand from Parag too. “

Kapil Baldawa: “A perfect amawer to the likes of Smith, Buttler and Samson. If you play percentages, you still have a chance and to the great KL Rahul, this is how you finish games. Not a nurdling at run a ball in 19th over and leave it till last over”

Murtaza: “Tewatia has done a tewatia again!! Though this time the whole team was struggling to play and he just came and settled the nerves and one shot brought another and took his team home. Parag and tewatia you beauty!”

5:45pm Khaleel and Tewatia having a heated discussion. Some words were said before this ball, but it looks like Khaleel is de-escalating. I mean, Tewatia has all the bragging rights anyway.

19.5 6 Ahmed to Parag pumps it over the cover boundary and breaks into dance! It’s a full toss outside off, he hangs leg side of it and hammers it inside-out. The win is sealed SIX

Another chat now between bowler and captain. And Kane Williamson. There’s a short cover in place. He’s around the wicket

19.4 1 Ahmed to Tewatia short of a good length just outside off, pulled off the front foot to long-on’s left 1 run

Now midwicket comes in

19.3 2 Ahmed to Tewatia good length, slower ball at off stump. Closes the face and picks this up to deep midwicket’s left. Shankar had no real chance of stopping the second, and he fumbled it anyway running to his left. 2 runs

Long discussion now about where to bowl. Fine leg goes back. Third man is in. Square leg is in. And cover is in. Will he dig it in short? There’s a deep backward point. Confusion though. Now square leg goes to short fine and fine leg moves across to deep backward square.

19.2 1 Ahmed to Parag low full toss outside off, hard hands again as he looks to drive through the off side. Inside edge down to long-on 1 run
19.1 2 Ahmed to Parag dragged to long-off’s right. Slower ball at a good length outside off, wants to lace that through the covers but is too eager. It’s cue-ended over the bowler’s head though and that gives them a second 2 runs
End of Over No.19 Rajasthan Royals 151/5 Last Over (14 runs)

They needed 36 off three, they’ve managed 28 in two. Can this pair take them through with 8 to get? Partnership of 73 off 7 overs. Khaleel has had a good game so far. Can he close it out? He’s around the wicket.

18.6 1 Natarajan to Parag low full toss outside off, goes a little too hard with the attempted drive and ends up slicing with one hand off the bat to sweeper cover 1 run
18.5 1 Natarajan to Tewatia low full toss outside off, into the leg side again and slices to sweeper cover 1 run
18.4 6 Natarajan to Tewatia and now he lifts one over fine leg! This is genius batting from Tewatia. He is playing SRH right now, just opening up whichever side of the field that he wants. It’s going to be full from Natarajan, so there is an option to walk into the off side as well and that’s what he goes with this time. Picks up this low full toss from middle and gets it a long way over that fielder in the deep SIX
18.3 4 Natarajan to Tewatia gets it past mid-off! Low full toss at leg stump, backs a long way into the leg side and opens the face. Gets this off the low part of his bat but it bounces past Warner’s dive to the right FOUR
18.2 1 Natarajan to Parag low full toss at off stump, clears the front leg and drives to long-off’s left 1 run

Win probability was 21% at the start of Rashid’s over, at 52% at the start of this one

18.1 1 Natarajan to Tewatia low full toss on middle stump, walks into the leg side and manages to only slice this towards sweeper cover 1 run
End of Over No.18 Rajasthan Royals 137/5 Last Over (14 runs)

Asking rate’s come down after Rashid’s over. Natarajan, by far the best yorker bowler in the tournament so far, has a job to do here. He’s over the wicket.

17.6 1 Rashid Khan to Tewatia good length on leg stump, looks to flick and cops that on the pad. It’s fine of short fine leg 1 leg bye
17.5 0 Rashid Khan to Tewatia the luck’s on his side as he survives both a catch behind and a stumping. Short of a length googly outside off, looks for the cut and runs straight away. Gets an outside edge that deflects off Bairstow’s leg and onto the stumps. But the zing bails don’t fall off no run
17.4 4 Rashid Khan to Tewatia now he goes over extra cover! He made them move sweeper cover to deep backward point and now he puts this full ball outside off right where that fielder might have stopped it. Just uses the angle. Remember how he struggled to get this exact angle away against Bishnoi in that famous match? He’s found a way FOUR
17.3 4 Rashid Khan to Tewatia and again! Stunning attack from Tewatia. No playing Rashid out. This is a googly, good length and at middle stump. Switches again and lifts it past backward point FOUR
17.2 4 Rashid Khan to Tewatia whips it to the backward point boundary! He’s switched his grip, and made full connection with this middle stump full toss to lift it over backward point FOUR
17.1 1 Rashid Khan to Parag good length and ripping away from off stump. Guides it to short third’s left off the outside edge 1 run
End of Over No.17 Rajasthan Royals 123/5 Last Over (18 runs)
16.6 1 Sandeep Sharma to Parag short at middle stump, shuffles and tucks this through vacant square leg 1 run

36 needed off 18. Rashid Khan is coming on. They’ll need to get at least one boundary this over…

16.5 4 Sandeep Sharma to Parag dinks it over the keeper! Superb execution. Parag has 14 off his last three balls and they’re up to 17 this over. This is full ball at middle stump, he gets down into the off side, drops the shoulders and almost looks like he’s yorked himelf. But somehow he manages to meet this on the half volley and steer it over YJB FOUR
16.4 4 Sandeep Sharma to Parag beats sweeper to the right. Slower short ball wide outside off, waits on it and chops it over extra cover. Rashid sprints to the right but his slide is not enough FOUR
16.3 1 Sandeep Sharma to Tewatia inside on the full toss and it’s onto his pads. He’s feeling sorry for himself for missing out even as Parag calls him through and sneaks a run pitch side 1 run
16.2 2 Sandeep Sharma to Tewatia overpitched outside off, drilled firmly past the non-striker and they steal a second to Warner’s left at long-off 2 runs
16.1 6 Sandeep Sharma to Tewatia more sweet-sounding pulls! Dropped halfway down at middle stump, this knuckle ball. And just outside off. It’s easier not to put this away. Tewatia onto the front foot and bludgeons this over wide long-on SIX
End of Over No.16 Rajasthan Royals 105/5 Last Over (11 runs)
15.6 6 Ahmed to Parag oh that is massive! Slower short ball sitting up at middle stump and he pummels this pull shot off the front foot. It echos across the ground and slams into the flex banners in the first tier. 97 metres SIX

abhishek: “@Sowmya: Hot Spot/Infrared Imaging maybe useful but will incur cost to the organiser/broadcaster. ” — Yup, not sure they have those cameras at the ground this season

15.5 2 Ahmed to Parag slower ball just outside off, pushed through the covers with an open face 2 runs
15.4 1 Ahmed to Tewatia slower ball just outside off, closes the face and gets a leading edge through the covers 1 run
15.3 1 Ahmed to Parag dropped by deep midwicket. Well, technically it’s not a drop if you don’t even get a hand on it. Garg completely misses this after making the ground, to get under it. Slower short ball climbing up at middle stump, through the pull early and sliced. He just overruns this and can’t get a hand with the reverse cup 1 run

Shankar: “@Tushar, but one of the 5 overs will be bowled by Rashid”

15.2 1 Ahmed to Tewatia slammed past the bowler who couldn’t get a hand on this catch attempt. Slower short ball outside off, flat-batted to long-off’s left 1 run
15.1 0 Ahmed to Tewatia slower short ball, wide outside off, mistimed drive straight to extra cover no run
End of Over No.15 Rajasthan Royals 94/5 Last Over (6 runs)

Sowmya : “What about Ultra Edge to detect if the ball brushed the bowler’s hands/ boots or not?? ” — Bit difficult to put in a mic in the middle of the pitch…

Tushar J: “SRH scored 62 of last 5. RR need 64. Not an impossible target if Tewatia can hit a few out of the park!”

And now the second time out. 65 needed off 30.

14.6 1 Natarajan to Tewatia yorker at leg stump, 135kph, jammed to long-on’s left 1 run
